Kathmandu – Shyam Bahadur Khadka, the Minister for Drinking Water, Energy and Irrigation of Bagmati Province, has resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama today.

Earlier, on July 25, 2025, four other Nepali Congress ministers in the provincial government—Suraj Chandra Lamichhane (Internal Affairs and Law), Bimal Thakuri (Culture and Tourism), Madhu Kumar Shrestha (Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation), and Min Krishna Maharjan (Youth and Sports)—also resigned. That same day, Chief Minister Lama dismissed them from their posts.

The motion to remove CM Lama as the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress in Bagmati Province was formally filed thereafter. A vote was held in the parliamentary party, which resulted in 15 votes in favor of Lama and 22 votes against, among the party’s 37 assembly members.

Bagmati Province has a total of 37 Nepali Congress assembly members out of 110 seats in the provincial assembly.
