Ashika Tamang Released After 24 Days in Custody

Kathmandu – Ashika Tamang, who was in custody for 24 days, has been released. She was held in custody for 24 days by the Kathmandu and Bhaktapur police.

On Friday, the Bhaktapur District Court ordered Tamang to be released on a bail of NPR 20,000. After posting the bail, she was released, as confirmed by DSP Dhundiraj Neupane of the Bhaktapur District Police Office.

Tamang was charged with the offense of causing disturbance in Bhaktapur. She had protested against the collection of a NPR 20 fee from people crossing the Suspension Bridge located at the border of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur in Sanga.

Tamang had also snatched and burned the receipts used for fee collection from the employees. In response, the Suryabinayak Municipality filed a complaint against her.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against her for the offense of causing disturbance.

In this case, the court ordered her release on a bail of NPR 20,000.

Earlier, Tamang was arrested from the Swayambhu area on the basis of a complaint filed at the Kathmandu Police Office on Magh 2.

On Poush 24, she was arrested by the police on charges of misbehaving at the Pashupati Development Fund.

In that case, Tamang was released on Magh 14 after posting a bail of NPR 10,000 at the Kathmandu District Administration Office, but was immediately arrested by the Bhaktapur Police Office.
