Kathmandu – The contractor company responsible for upgrading the Tribhuvan University cricket ground in Kirtipur—constructing parapet walls and installing floodlights—has been fined.

Because the work wasn’t completed by the set deadline, the company was penalized under the contract. According to the terms, they must pay a daily penalty of 0.05% of the total project cost—amounting to over NPR 200,000 per day, as stated by the Ministry of Urban Development.

The joint venture BKOI‑KCDC‑BG JV was contracted for the parapet work, while the Bishan‑Ishwari JV took on the floodlight installation. Agreements were signed on Falgun 19 and 22 (Nepali calendar) respectively with the Federal Secretariat Construction and Management Office in Sano Gaucharan.

The parapet work was contracted for NPR 492.5 million, and the floodlight installation for NPR 473.7 million, according to the office.

Chakravarti Kantha, the office chief, noted that on Asar 30, contractors were formally informed that delays beyond the deadline would incur penalties. “As of Tuesday, they are working while paying the daily penalty. It will continue until the work is complete,” he said.

He added that legally they can work while incurring penalties for up to 200 days—or until penalties equal 10% of the total project cost. If the work still isn’t finished after that period, the company will be blacklisted.

However, the contractor has pledged to finish within a month. So far, 4,000 seating fittings are done, three of the six floodlight poles have been delivered. Parapet work shows 63% financial progress and 77% physical completion; floodlight installation has reached 29% financial and 45% physical progress.
