Kathmandu – During the ongoing central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress, General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma suggested that party President Sher Bahadur Deuba should step down from his role as Prime Minister and focus on a more guiding, elder statesman role.

In Monday’s meeting held at the party’s office in Sanepa, Sharma advised Deuba to adhere to his earlier statements and relinquish both positions to take on a mentoring role within the party.

In response, with a touch of humor, President Deuba remarked that he considers himself a difficult person who does not simply follow others’ suggestions. Citing a central member’s account, he stated, “It’s my decision what I do. I am not going to act just because someone told me to. Consider it; I am a difficult person.”

Adding further, General Secretary Sharma praised Deuba, suggesting that his stature would reach the heights of Everest if he stepped down from both positions. He remarked, “President, you have accomplished everything. By recommending a colleague in Asar 2083, your stature must surpass that of Everest.”

Sharma emphasized that in order for Deuba to unite the entire party, he should withdraw from both the presidency and the prime ministerial role and aim higher. Deuba indicated that after completing his four-year term as president, followed by an additional year as per party regulations, and the six months allowed by the constitution, he would hold the general convention.
