Kathmandu — A no‑confidence motion has been filed by Nepali Congress itself against Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama.

Twenty-one NC lawmakers submitted the motion with signatures to the party parliamentary secretary, Krishna Kumar Tamang, on Friday.

Though there are 24 Congress lawmakers in the province, three members did not sign as they were absent. The threshold to remove the parliamentary party leader (who also holds the Chief Minister post) is support from 19 members, and with 21 signatories, the requirement has been met.

Once removed from the party leadership, Tamang will automatically be removed as Chief Minister.

On the same day, four Congress ministers in the provincial cabinet—Suraj Chandra Lamichhane, Bimal Thakuri, Madhu Kumar Shrestha, and Min Krishna Maharjan—resigned en masse. This move is understood to support the faction pushing for Indra Bahadur Baniya, the provincial party chair, to take over as Chief Minister
