UN Secy General Guterres to land Nepal on 29 Oct
Kathmandu, Oct 27: Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, will be coming to Kathmandu on 29 October for a four-day visit to Nepal.
Secretary General Guterres, who is coming here at the invitation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, had called off his planned visit beginning October 14 in the wake of Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 and rescheduled it.
Concluding the ongoing peace process and establishing sustainable peace in the country is among the matters of priority during his visit, informed Govinda Acharya, PM Dahal’s press advisor. While climate change, sustainable development and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) agendas will get spotlight on the occasion, he added
Guterres, 74, is now serving his second term as the UN secretary-general and it will be his second trip to Nepal.
He had first visited Nepal back in 2007 in the capacity of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
During his stay here, the Secretary-General is scheduled to pay a courtesy call to President Ramchandra Poudel, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ besides major political parties chiefs including Sher Bahadur Deuba (Nepali Congress) and K P Oli (CPN-UML)
He will be addressing the joint session of the federal parliament Tuesday.
He will also be visiting Patan Durbar Square, Annapurna Base Camp and Lumbini.
