Govt to form High Level Committee to go into gold smuggling
A meeting of the top leaders of the national political parties has decided to form a high level committee to probe the gold smuggling case.
The meeting held at the residence of the Prime Minister Monday came to an understanding to form the high level committee which gave a face saving to the main opposition Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist to lift the obstruction of parliament.
The big three, however, chose not to include other parties like the Rashtriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party in their endeavor to lift the obstruction of parliament and get at the bottom of the transnational gold smuggling case.
The meeting instantly formed a three-member task force comprising Subas Chandra Nembang CPN (UML), Ramesh Lekhak (Nepali Congress) and Hit Raj Pandey of CPN (Maoist Centre)- to decide the terms of reference for the proposed committee immediately.
The UML had been obstructing the parliament for a long time, demanding the formation of a high level probe committee.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had summoned the meeting for the discussion towards ending the deadlock in the parliament.
