Beijing refuses to extend Indian Journalist’s visa as a retaliatory move
The Indian journalist working in China associated with the Press Trust of India (PTI) will be leaving the country at the end of June, as Beijing didn’t extend his visa.
However, indicating it as a retaliatory move, “China’s foreign ministry claimed visas of Chinese journalists were not approved by India since 2020, resulting in a drop from 14 to only one Chinese correspondent now working in India”, according to India Today. It added “China on Monday accused India of discrimination and unfair treatment of its journalist working in the country”.
India had four journalists working in China by the beginning of 2023, three of them already left as their visa expired.
With the last one leaving “India will have zero media presence in the world’s second-largest economy”, India Today said.
