Death toll to quake in Turkey and Syria reaches at least 3800

After a devastating 7.8 Richter scale earthquake in Turkey and Syria early Monday, more than 3,800 people have been killed and thousands injured, according to CNN.

Several aftershocks were felt, later measured 7.5 magnitude. Rescuers across the world rushed to support the rescue effort while leaders from different nations extended the help.

Seismologists say it was one of the largest ever recorded in Turkey, writes the BBC adding survivors say it took two minutes for the shaking to stop. It has also mentioned that rescue effort was hampered by heavy rain and snow and the damage caused by the earthquake to three airports across Turkey, also creating challenges for aid deliveries.

Rescuers searched through the frigid night while Authorities feared the death toll from Monday’s pre-dawn earthquake and aftershocks would keep climbing as rescuers looked for survivors among tangles of metal and concrete spread across the region, according to AP news.
