Govt announces public holiday on Monday

The government has announced a public holiday Monday, January 16 to mourn the demise caused by the aircraft crash in Pokhara Sunday Morning.

The Yeti Airline’s aircraft 9N-ANC ATR 72 was crashed around 11 am Sunday at the gorge of Seti river in Pokhara.

The aircraft took off at 10:33 am from Kathmandu to Pokhara with 72 people on board including crew members.

Yeti Airlines spokesman Suman Bartaula said that two pilots, two air hostesses and 68 passengers were on board the ill-fated plane.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) has called an emergency meeting of the Cabinet over the crash.

“The emergency meeting of the Council of Minister today expressed a deep sorrow over the plane crash, condoling the losses of lives. It has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” and decided to mourn the tragic incident on January 16 at the national-level, tomorrow and give a public holiday, informed Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson Bishnu Poudel.
