Majid Ansari, an activist from the Gen Z movement who was detained by police while visiting the Kirtipur holding center for humanitarian management of flood-affected squatters, has been discharged from the hospital.

Immediately after his discharge, Ansari took to social media to express his views, announcing his intention to pursue legal action against what he described as a planned entrapment and extreme torture.

On Ashadh 27 (July 12, 2026), Ansari and his colleagues visited the holding center at Sundarighat, Kirtipur Municipality-10, to assist landless families affected by the flood. During this time, Ansari alleged that the Nepal Police, acting on the orders of an unelected individual, surrounded him and his colleagues, using inappropriate political language and assaulting them. He claimed that around 10-12 officers, out of camera view, severely injured him and unlawfully detained him.

While at the Kirtipur police circle, Ansari’s health deteriorated due to his injuries, leading to his transfer first to Kirtipur Hospital and then to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. He revealed that during his treatment, the Home Ministry and Nepal Police closely monitored him, attempting to prevent the inclusion of ‘police assault’ in his medical records under orders from above.

Ansari reported that plainclothes officers threatened him inside the hospital cabin, pressuring him to sign bail papers immediately or face charges of disorderly conduct, causing him mental distress.

Expressing gratitude, Ansari thanked senior advocates, lawyers, legal professionals, members of the House of Representatives, senior and fellow law students from Nepal Law Campus for their support in his fight for life and freedom amidst physical and mental torture.

He also extended heartfelt thanks to the National Human Rights Commission, Madheshi Commission, Muslim Commission, Amnesty International Nepal, Advocacy Forum, leaders of various political parties, fellow student movement activists, civil society, and especially Gen Z journalists and the entire media sector.

Ansari stated that, following doctors’ advice, he would remain on complete bed rest for 2-3 days and would make a public appearance once his health stabilizes. He also made a heartfelt appeal to all legal professionals, journalists, human rights defenders, and civil society to support him in his upcoming legal battle against the oppression and torture he faced.
