Man critically injured in self-immolation attempt in Kathmandu’s Buddhanagar

A man attempted self-immolation in Buddhanagar, Kathmandu. Ashwin Raut, 45, set himself on fire in the kitchen of his home around 6:15 AM on Saturday. Upon receiving information about the incident, police rescued him and took him to Bir Hospital for treatment.

According to Kathmandu police spokesperson Pawan Bhattarai, doctors have reported that more than 50 percent of Raut’s body is burned, and his condition is critical. Raut lived in Buddhanagar with his wife and son, but they were not at home at the time of the incident, police said.

The exact reason for the self-immolation attempt is still unknown. However, neighbors mentioned that Raut had a dispute with his son on Friday. Police spokesperson Bhattarai stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
