Kathmandu – Dr. Mahabir Pun, founder of the National Innovation Center and Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, has apologized for his remarks regarding traffic fines.

A few days ago, during an interview with social media journalists (YouTubers), he had stated that those violating traffic rules should be fined 50,000 rupees. He has since retracted this statement and apologized.

In a ‘strong announcement’ on his official social media, Pun mentioned that during the interview, journalists persistently questioned him about traffic fines, even though he repeatedly said he was not knowledgeable on the subject.

He clarified that he only mentioned the need for appropriate fines for traffic rule violators and that the figure of 50,000 was brought up by the journalists themselves.

Apologizing for any unintended offense caused by his statement, he urged violators to reflect on their actions.

In response to this incident, Minister Pun announced that starting today, he will not give interviews to any large or small YouTubers, social media, or journalists for the next year.

He is determined not to speak on any subject except those of significant public importance.

Pun also questioned what the state and society would be like if necessary fines and penalties were not imposed on those who violate rules and commit crimes.
