Egypt has made history in the FIFA World Cup.

In a thrilling match at the Dallas Stadium in Texas, USA, Egypt stunned Australia with a 4–2 victory in a penalty shootout, securing their first-ever spot in the Round of 16.

Egypt took an early lead in the 13th minute with a goal from Imam Ashour.

However, in the 55th minute, an attempt by Egypt’s Mohamed Hany to clear the ball with a header resulted in an own goal.

With Hany’s own goal, Australia leveled the match at 1–1.

After the regulation 90 minutes ended in a 1–1 draw, the game went into extra time.

As neither team could score in extra time, the match was decided by a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Australia’s Harry Souttar and Lucas Harrington failed to score, allowing Egypt to claim victory.

This is a historic moment for Egypt, playing in their fourth World Cup, as they had been eliminated in the group stage in all three previous editions.

Egypt will now compete on July 7 in Atlanta for a place in the quarterfinals against the winner of the match between defending champions Argentina and Cape Verde.
