Belgium secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Senegal in a highly competitive match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Yuri Tielemans scored via a penalty in the dying moments of extra time, allowing Belgium to make a remarkable comeback from the brink of defeat.

The match seemed destined for a penalty shootout when Senegal’s Lamine Camara fouled Tielemans inside the box, granting Belgium a penalty opportunity, which Tielemans converted with ease.

Earlier, Senegal had maintained a strong grip on the game during regular time. Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr scored for Senegal, giving their team the lead.

However, in the latter stages, Belgium unexpectedly turned the game in their favor. Romelu Lukaku scored with an excellent flick, signaling Belgium’s comeback, and as the match neared its end, Tielemans headed in a goal to push the game into extra time.

With this thrilling win, Belgium has advanced to the Round of 16 in the tournament. They will now face either the United States or Bosnia and Herzegovina for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The defeat marks a disappointing end to the World Cup journey for African powerhouse Senegal.
