The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Nepal Police to investigate spot fixing and match fixing reported in an ongoing T-20 league cricket tournament.
Nepali as well as foreign players are playing the league begun on 24 December at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kritipur. The league supposed to be completed in January 11 with total of 36 matches.
But, 21st match of the league between Kathmandu Knights and Biratnagar Super Kings Tuesday was delayed, reasoning that the players were not paid their salaries. Later, CAN assured the players to be paid their due amounts and eventually the match was resumed.
Earlier, one of the official commentators of the tournament released a video alleging spot fixing in the tournament. During the post-match conference Tuesday, Gyanendra Malla, captain of Kathmandu Knights also revealed that one of the members in his team was approached to match fixing.
The Ministry issued a statement Tuesday urging the police to conduct necessary investigation into reports of match-fixing, irregularities in the players’ salary together with organizers who are reportedly out of contact.
