In their second Group G match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Iran and Belgium played to a goalless draw on Sunday night, sharing the points. The competitive match, held at SoFi Stadium, saw both teams create some good chances, but neither could find the back of the net.

In the 25th minute, Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi thought he had given his team an early lead, but the referee ruled the goal offside. Later, in the 66th minute, Belgium’s Nathan Ngui was sent off with a straight red card for a foul on Taremi, reducing Belgium to 10 players. Despite this advantage, Iran could not capitalize.

Earlier, Iran had started their World Cup campaign with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand. To keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive, Iran will play a crucial match against Egypt on June 27.

This tournament marks Iran’s seventh appearance in the FIFA World Cup, underscoring their consistent presence in this global football event.
