Argentina and Algeria supporters clash in Times Square before World Cup match

Supporters of Argentina and Algeria clashed in New York’s Times Square ahead of their FIFA World Cup match.

According to police, around 10 PM local time, a confrontation between groups of Argentine and Algerian supporters escalated into a physical altercation at 46th Street and Broadway in Manhattan.

Videos on social media show large groups of supporters pushing each other, which then led to punching. During the scuffle, a child was knocked down by the jostling crowd. A woman at the scene can be heard in the video trying to calm the crowd, saying, “Calm down, calm down, what are you doing?”

Some beverages were also seen being thrown towards the crowd during the incident. However, police reported that no one was injured.

The World Cup Group ‘J’ match between Argentina and Algeria is scheduled for Tuesday night at Kansas City Stadium, local time. The match will start at 6:45 Nepali time. Police have stated that they are conducting further investigations into the incident.
