Kathmandu – KP Sharma Oli, Chairperson of CPN-UML and former Prime Minister, has stated that the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 were not a simple protest or revolution but a premeditated conspiracy aimed at toppling the then government.

Citing the summary of a report by the National Human Rights Commission, Oli claimed that these incidents were part of sponsored and criminal activities. He argued that when it became impossible to overthrow a constitutionally and democratically strong, popularly elected majority government through legal and parliamentary processes, illegal and criminal methods were adopted.

He further noted that there had been long-term training and preparation behind these events. According to Oli, technical preparations such as methods of arson, petrol bomb construction, and making flammable substances more lethal were already in place. He asserted that this was not a spontaneous event but a deliberately orchestrated one. Oli also claimed that efforts to tarnish the image of popular leaders and to level false and fabricated accusations against them were part of the same plan.

He said, “Some call the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 a protest, others a revolution. Those who carried it out would naturally call it a revolution. They would even label the activities that led to the murder of youths and young people as a revolution. But it was a conspiratorial, premeditated event. This is not just my opinion. The summary of the National Human Rights Commission’s report mentions that the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 were premeditated, conspiratorial, and sponsored. That is the reality. The conspiracy was against us. We were in a strong constitutional and democratic position. We were a popularly elected majority government, and that government had an overwhelming majority. Many attempts were made to overthrow and destroy that government through constitutional, legal, and parliamentary means. But that was not possible. When it was not possible, a conspiracy was hatched to displace the government through illegal and criminal means.”

He described the tendency to organize criminal activities and then blame others as an attempt to “eat cucumbers and stick the seeds on someone else’s cheek.”
