The opposition party, UML, has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

During Tuesday’s House of Representatives meeting, UML MP Ganesh Singh Thagunna stated that if Prime Minister Shah intentionally made the remark that Nepal has encroached on many areas of India, it is a serious issue and he should resign immediately.

MP Thagunna also urged Prime Minister Shah to apologize and move forward if the statement was made inadvertently.

Thagunna said, “It is known to everyone here that our country’s highest executive leader made this statement in this sovereign Parliament. This is a serious and objectionable issue. It goes against national interest and affects sovereignty and territorial integrity. If this was a slip of the tongue made unknowingly, it should not be prolonged. It is causing significant harm to the country. If it was said intentionally, it is a serious and objectionable matter. We believe he should resign over this issue.”

MP Thagunna expressed that it would be most appropriate for the Prime Minister to acknowledge any mistakes in front of the people and proceed accordingly.
