Two arrested for robbing woman with chili powder in Kathmandu

Kathmandu – Police have arrested two individuals who fled after robbing a woman by throwing chili powder in her eyes in Sukedhara, Kathmandu.

According to the District Police Office, Kathmandu, the incident occurred on Jestha 16 at around 1:23 PM when the suspects attacked a woman with chili powder and stole her necklace and mobile phone. They were apprehended the same day at 9:25 PM from the Jadibuti Manohara River Corridor in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32.

The arrested individuals are 40-year-old Ganesh Karki from Chapali Bhadra Kali, Budhanilkantha Municipality-3, and 31-year-old Bishnu Gurung, originally from Ilam, who had been staying in various dharmashalas.

Police reported that during the arrest, Karki also attempted to attack the officers with chili powder and a khukuri. A stolen necklace, a mobile phone, and a khukuri were recovered from him.

Investigations revealed that Karki has a long criminal history, with charges including disorderly conduct, possession of weapons, homicide, theft, and robbery.

Karki had escaped from the Central Jail Jagannathdewal on Bhadra 24, 2082, where he was serving a six-year sentence for robbery. After his escape, he reportedly committed several robberies in various areas of Kathmandu, posing as a police officer and using chili powder.

Police investigations also uncovered that he attacked police in Kapan, stole from an electronics store in Gaushala, robbed cash and mobile phones from people traveling abroad, snatched mobile phones in Shantinagar, and pretended to be a police officer to extort money and goods from drug users in areas like Tilganga, Pashupati, and Jorpati. He also allegedly stole a scooter from Sundarijal.

Further investigations are ongoing regarding both individuals, according to the District Police Office, Kathmandu.
