Nepal Indigenous Film Festival begins, celebrating diverse indigenous cultures and stories

The sixth Nepal Indigenous Film Festival commenced on Sunday.

The three-day festival, held at the Film Development Board in Chabahil, will showcase feature films, short films, documentaries, and AI-generated documentaries that reflect the languages, cultures, traditions, history, and cultural identities of indigenous communities, according to the organizers.

Festival director Sagar Kerung stated that films depicting the unique stories and lifestyles of various indigenous communities will be screened. He mentioned that the festival aims to promote the art, customs, and identity of indigenous communities both nationally and internationally through cinema.

Acting president of the Indigenous Film Federation, Bhuisal Lama, highlighted the festival as an important medium for preserving and promoting the languages, cultures, and histories of their communities.

Films such as “Peet,” “Swayambhu,” “Dolpo Ramrani,” “Hyang Tanach,” and “Dilsara” will be screened at the festival. Additionally, awards will be presented in various categories, including best film, director, actor, actress, script, and documentary, as noted by the organizers.

Inaugurating the festival, Dinesh DC, chairman of the Film Development Board, expressed that such festivals contribute to the promotion and recognition of indigenous cultures.
