Kathmandu – An agreement has been signed between Chandragiri Municipality and Nepal Police to install CCTV cameras in the municipality.

The agreement was signed on Thursday to install CCTV cameras along the main road from Nagdhunga to Kalanki, considered the main entry point to the Kathmandu Valley, and on roads leading to ward offices. The initiative aims to strengthen security within the municipality.

The agreement was signed by Municipality Chief Ghanshyam Giri and Additional Inspector General of Police Ishwar Karki from the Kathmandu Valley Police Office. Mayor Giri stated that since Nagdhunga, the largest and main entry point to the Kathmandu Valley, falls within Chandragiri Municipality, collaboration with the police is being undertaken to make the area’s peace and security more effective and technology-friendly. He expressed confidence that the installation of CCTV cameras will aid in controlling criminal activities and managing traffic.

Additional Inspector General Karki highlighted the importance of the role of citizens and local government in strengthening security. “Security is only possible through collective efforts. We highly appreciate this investment by the local government in the security sector, and I express our commitment to full cooperation from the police in solving problems,” he said.

Currently, around 400 CCTV cameras have been installed within Chandragiri Municipality. Municipality spokesperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi stated that the number of cameras will be increased to 1,500, and the agreement with Nepal Police aims to enhance security within the municipality.
