Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav of Madhes Province is set to seek a vote of confidence today.

Following the withdrawal of support by the Janamat Party on Baisakh 22, Chief Minister Yadav is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly meeting called for 1 PM today, as per constitutional provisions.

Yadav, who is also the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, restructured his Cabinet before seeking the vote. He removed the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) from the government and brought in CPN-UML.

On Thursday night, Yadav appointed Mohammad Samir, a Provincial Assembly member from UML, as a minister without portfolio and dismissed ministers from JSP.

Currently, the Madhes Provincial Assembly has 101 members out of a total of 107. Among them, 24 are from CPN-UML, 22 from Nepali Congress, and 14 from the Nepali Communist Party.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yadav had scheduled a vote of confidence for Jestha 1 but removed it from the Provincial Assembly’s agenda at the last minute due to the possibility of floor-crossing.
