Chennai Super Kings have been knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after losing to Gujarat Titans by 89 runs. Chennai is the third team to exit the league stage this season.

Only four matches remain in the current IPL season. In the match held on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Chennai, chasing a target of 230 runs set by Gujarat Titans, was all out for 140 runs in 13.4 overs.

Chennai managed to secure 12 points with 6 wins out of 14 matches. Following the victory, Gujarat climbed to the second position on the points table, amassing 18 points from 9 wins in 14 matches. Gujarat will only drop out of the top 2 if there is a major upset. Only if Hyderabad secures a comprehensive win against Bangalore in today’s match will Gujarat be out of the ‘qualifier’ race.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Gujarat posted a formidable score of 229 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan scored 84 runs, while Shubman Gill contributed 64 runs. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 57 runs.

In response, none of the Chennai players could perform significantly, with Shivam Dube’s 47 runs being the highest score. In wrapping up Chennai’s innings cheaply, Mohammad Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan each took 3 wickets.
