The ninth session of the Koshi Provincial Assembly, which is also the budget session, is set to begin today in Biratnagar.

According to the provincial government and the assembly secretariat, the meeting has been scheduled for 3 PM with three main agendas.

As per Niroj Dhakal, the information officer at the secretariat, the session will commence with the reading of a letter from the provincial chief.

Following this, leaders from various political parties represented in the assembly will deliver greetings and address contemporary issues.

The final agenda for the first day of the budget session will be the tabling of the ‘Provincial Sports Act First Amendment Ordinance’ under the Ministry of Social Development.

This ordinance, approved by the provincial Cabinet on Baisakh 23, must be certified within 60 days as per legal provisions, which is why it is being tabled today, Dhakal informed.

Additionally, the secretariat is preparing to present the provincial government’s policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year on Thursday.

Due to a lack of physical infrastructure, this session will also be conducted temporarily. The main provincial assembly building at Devkota Chowk in Biratnagar was destroyed during the ‘Gen Z’ movement, causing ongoing issues for holding meetings.

Previously, the assembly was temporarily shifted to Maheshpur in Katahari Rural Municipality, Morang, but meetings could not be held there, leading to the use of the Birendra Sabha Griha in Biratnagar as an alternative.

The final meeting of last year’s winter session, held on Chaitra 23, also took place in this same hall.
