Arsenal has been a title contender for several seasons, but poor form towards the end has always kept them a step away from the championship. Finally, they have won the English Premier League title after 22 years. The wait for Arsenal fans to celebrate a Premier League victory has been a long one.

They made Tuesday night special. There was a large gathering of fans outside the Emirates Stadium and in nearby pubs. Meanwhile, as Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth in a must-win game, Arsenal became champions. As soon as the match ended on the south coast, there was an explosion of joy in the pubs of North London.

In recent years, Arsenal fans, having come close to the title multiple times only to fall short, might have felt such a day would never come. The celebrations were not just on the streets and in pubs but also at Arsenal’s training center, where the players and coaching staff had gathered.

As soon as the final whistle blew, players and staff danced, hugged, and chanted in unison, “Champions, champions, ole ole ole!” Last month, after losing to Manchester City, Arsenal captain Declan Rice had said, “Nothing is over yet.”

But after securing the title on Tuesday, he posted pictures of the celebrating players on social media, writing, “Now the job is done.” This title came in Mikel Arteta’s seventh year as coach, showing what is possible when a coach is given time.

One fan remarked, “Since Arsenal last won the league, I got married, had a child who is now a teenager, and got divorced. Yet, Arsenal hadn’t been able to win the title again.”
