Four dead, 27 injured in bus accident in Arghakhanchi, Nepal

Four people have died and 27 others were injured in a bus accident at Durgafaat Kurule in Panini Rural Municipality, Arghakhanchi.

The accident occurred near Kurulefaat in Panini-8 on the Sandhikharka-Ghumti Tansen Palpa road section. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Diwas Bahadur Jisi, two people died on the spot, one died during treatment at Arghakhanchi Hospital, and the driver passed away at Lumbini Medical College, Prabhas Palpa.

The deceased have been identified as 78-year-old Ram Maya Basnet and 78-year-old Bindu Kunwar from Pokhara Metropolitan City-19 in Kaski, 50-year-old Kaushila Regmi from Modi Rural Municipality-5 in Parbat, and 45-year-old bus driver Ramesh Jisi from the same area, according to Information Officer Jhalak Sharma of the District Police Office.

Among the injured, four are in critical condition. The injured are receiving treatment at Lumbini Medical College, Prabhas Palpa, and Bhairahawa Medical College. Those injured at Arghakhanchi Hospital have also been sent to Bhairahawa Medical College for treatment.

Most of the victims are from Modi Rural Municipality in Parbat, according to the police.

The bus, with registration number Dh1K 504, was returning to Parbat after a visit to Supa Deurali when the accident occurred, informed District Police Office Chief Jisi.

Preliminary information suggests that the accident happened due to brake failure, causing the bus to plunge approximately 100 meters into the forest. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the police.

The rescue operation was conducted by a police team under the command of Chief Jisi and local residents, as informed by former Panini Rural Municipality Chairperson Achyut Gautam.
