Donald Trump has announced a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

This move by Trump follows accusations from both sides of violating separate ceasefires declared to celebrate the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany.

The American President stated, “This ceasefire will include a suspension of all military activities and the exchange of 1,000 prisoners from both countries.”

Immediately after, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Ukraine’s participation, and Russian state media also reported that Russia agreed to the proposal.

Previously, both sides had accused each other of continuing attacks, with Moscow’s mayor reporting that the city was targeted by drones overnight.

In his post, Trump mentioned that he personally requested the three-day ceasefire and expressed his appreciation for “President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky for accepting it.”

Ahead of Saturday’s Victory Day celebrations, Putin had declared a ceasefire for May 8-9. Kyiv had earlier called for an indefinite ceasefire starting from May 6.

Russia has warned Ukraine not to attack the Victory Day parade on Red Square.
