Kathmandu—The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of Ambika Basnet and nine others on bail. Ambika is the wife of UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet.

On Baisakh 10, Ambika and others assaulted Shobha Pathak at Maitighar. Following the incident, the police arrested them and, through the government attorney’s office, filed a case against them for attempted murder.

However, on Thursday, the court ordered the release of Ambika and Sharmila Basnet on a bail of 50,000 rupees each. The other eight individuals were ordered to be released on a bail of 25,000 rupees each.

The eight individuals include Geeta Pandit, Pragati Thapa, Sonu Baral, Januka Basnet, Rekha Neupane, Sabina KC, Kamala Basnet, and Nita Khatri.

Shobha Pathak had staged a sit-in at Maitighar demanding action against Mahesh Basnet, alleging sexual harassment. However, Ambika and others allegedly assaulted her, claiming she was making accusations on a matter that was already in court.
