Kathmandu – The Nepali Congress has expressed positive views on the diplomatic note sent by the government to both India and China, urging them to respect Nepal’s sovereignty and acknowledging Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani as Nepali territory.

In a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee on Monday, it was decided to recall the diplomatic initiative taken in 2072 BS by the then-government led by the party’s former president Sushil Koirala. At that time, the government had sent a diplomatic note to both India and China, urging them to correct the issue immediately.

The meeting, chaired by Gagan Kumar Thapa, expressed serious concern over the agreement between India and China to conduct the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage via Nepali territory Lipulekh.

The party’s statement also reiterated that Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani are Nepali territories, a stance the Congress has consistently maintained.

Based on the Treaty of Sugauli of 1816, Nepal’s historical maps, records, documents, and evidence, the Congress has upheld the official view that these areas belong to Nepal.

“The Congress is clear in its stance and position. The party believes that both India and China will be sensitive to Nepal’s sovereignty,” the statement noted.
