Kathmandu— A street protest erupted against the use of bulldozers in various squatter settlements in Kathmandu.

The protest at Maitighar on Saturday was organized by Gen Z Centre. They demonstrated against what they termed as “bulldozer terror” inflicted on squatters without proper management.

Protesters chanted slogans such as “We survived the floods but not the government”, “Where is humanity?”, “Buried by bulldozers”, “Squatter land belongs to the government, but who do the squatters belong to?”, “Squatter issues are a result of unequal distribution and economic disparity”, and “Holding centers or torture houses”.

The government began using bulldozers last Saturday, and the operation continues. Displaced homeless citizens from the settlements have been accommodated in various organizations, government buildings, and hotels.
