Kathmandu – Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Vikram Timilsina, has stated that building a secure, reliable, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem is a top priority for the government.

In a message on the occasion of National Information and Communication Technology Day, 2083, he emphasized that information technology is now a fundamental necessity for good governance, service delivery, economic development, entrepreneurship, and citizen empowerment.

He extended heartfelt wishes to entrepreneurs, innovators, technical workforce, the startup community, the private sector, researchers, students, and all stakeholders active in the field of information and communication technology. He noted that the government is advancing towards making the public service system more straightforward, transparent, accountable, and citizen-friendly while implementing the goal of building a Digital Nepal.

“In this context, the ministry has prioritized the development of a long-term information technology strategy aimed at the coming decade and the development of digital public infrastructure. Efforts are underway to strengthen and make the citizen app more effective, enabling citizens to access essential state services easily through a single digital platform,” he stated.

The ministry is accelerating reforms in the legal and institutional framework related to information technology, with the aim of developing Nepal as a regional hub for digital innovation, IT services, the data economy, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The government is committed to reducing the digital divide and ensuring digital inclusion by expanding high-speed broadband internet nationwide, strengthening government data centers and disaster recovery systems, enhancing digital literacy, and producing skilled IT personnel, he said.

Additionally, he mentioned the goal of establishing the IT sector as a source of employment, promoting young talent, developing startups, and serving as a new growth engine for the national economy.

“Digital transformation cannot be achieved by the government alone. Active collaboration from the private sector, academic institutions, development partners, media, the tech community, and all citizens is essential in this campaign. I earnestly call upon everyone to join hands in the shared journey of building a prosperous, modern, and digital Nepal,” Minister Timilsina said in his message.
