Kathmandu – In the World Cup League-2, Oman has chosen to bat first against Nepal. In the match set to take place shortly at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Oman’s captain won the toss and invited Nepal to bowl.

These two teams faced each other in the previous edition of World Cup League 2 in 2020. Nepal has made one change for today’s match.

Gulshan Jha has been included in the team in place of Lalit Rajbanshi. In the current edition, Oman is ahead of Nepal in the points table. Oman is in third place with 29 points from 25 matches.

Meanwhile, Nepal is in seventh place with 14 points from 21 matches. Nepal is in a challenging position in this series. With 15 matches remaining, Nepal is under pressure to secure continuous victories.

Nepal needs to win at least 12 out of the 15 remaining matches to have a chance at the top four, which would allow Nepal to qualify for the One Day World Cup qualifiers for the second consecutive time. Out of these 15 matches, Nepal will play 7 on home ground.

After this series with UAE and Oman, Nepal is scheduled to play another League 2 series at home against America and Scotland. Following that, Nepal will travel to the Netherlands in July to play against the Netherlands and Namibia.

In October, Nepal is scheduled to go to Oman to conclude the 2023-027 League 2 cycle. In Muscat, Nepal will face Oman and Canada. Therefore, Nepal will aim to win all the remaining home matches. In this ongoing home series, Nepal defeated UAE by 37 runs in the first match on Saturday.

Oman, on the other hand, was defeated by UAE by 25 runs on Monday. Oman’s loss to UAE has provided some relief to Nepal. Nepal’s chances will remain intact only if they can defeat Oman in their match.
