U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to extend the ongoing ceasefire with Iran indefinitely. This move, initiated through mediation and requests from Pakistan, has temporarily averted a full-scale military confrontation.

According to Trump, the ceasefire will remain in place until there is a clear proposal from Iran and negotiations reach a conclusive end. His statement has highlighted the uncertainty within Iran’s leadership, pointing out that it is still unclear who officially speaks for the Iranian government and what their genuine proposals are.

Trump has repeatedly mentioned the fragmented nature of Iran’s leadership and its disorganized internal communication and decision-making processes.

Politically and economically, Trump is not eager to engage in war at this moment. He has chosen to hold off on reverting to full-scale hostilities, taking into account the political pressure at home and potential impacts on global oil prices.

Notably, he has not set any specific timelines for this decision, giving himself the flexibility to adapt as situations evolve. However, the American blockade on Iranian ports remains in place. Iran views this blockade as a component of the conflict, which poses a major stumbling block to advancing negotiations.

Given the circumstances, there is a strong possibility that Iran might escalate the conflict or continue the tense situation similar to a “cold war” in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
