Chairman of the Ujyalo Nepal Party (UNP), Kulman Ghising, has urged the government to roll back the recent hike in petroleum prices.

Speaking at a press conference held in Birendranagar, Surkhet today during the Karnali Province-level inaugural gathering of party cadres and an organizational expansion program, he said the government should provide special concessions on fuel price increases in Karnali.

“Due to its difficult geography, Karnali is already expensive. To make travel and transportation easier for both domestic and international tourists, the prices of fuels such as diesel, petrol, and gas should not be increased,” he said. “Even neighboring India has not raised fuel prices, so the government should reduce the burden of price hikes on citizens and ensure price adjustments.”

Chairman Ghising also said he is ready to support creating an environment for the two-thirds majority government to function effectively. He claimed that during his tenure at the Nepal Electricity Authority and in government, around Rs 35 billion investment was secured for electrification in Karnali and transmission lines.

According to him, work on the 132 kV transmission line has already reached Jumla.

He added that although the party had to face defeat in elections due to being newly formed and lacking time for proper management, the UNP will emerge as a major party in the next election and expand its organization down to the ward level.
