Kathmandu — Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane has apologized to the Dalit community on behalf of the government for centuries of discrimination and injustice.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Thursday, he said that the discrimination faced by Dalits is not merely a social mistake but an organized crime.

Referring to an earlier incident involving Khagendra Sunar, Lamichhane questioned whether the state had ever apologized for the long history of injustice against Dalits.

He stated, “Today, I want to say something to the Dalit community with a public apology. This government is, for the first time, offering a collective and public apology for centuries of discrimination, injustice, and oppression. I apologize on behalf of the entire party, the Prime Minister, and the government.”

During his address, he also said that the government would ensure women’s rights, acknowledging that women have carried the greatest responsibilities in society while receiving the least opportunities.
