Winter storm caused dozens deaths in North America

The “bomb cyclone” winter storm with heavy snow, high wind and brutal cold caused dozens of deaths, U. S. media reports.

Though the death caused by storms was reported in Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Colorado, the Buffalo City of New York remained the hardest hit. At least 34 people died across the U S, BBC reports.

Thousands of flights have been cancelled and more than 55 million Americans remained under wind chill alerts on Sunday, according to BBC. It further writes “Four fatalities occurred in Canada when a bus rolled over on an icy road near the town of Merritt, in the western province of British Columbia.”

The storm not only disrupted travel but also crippled the electricity supply causing blackouts and power outages.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, naming it “a crisis of epic proportion”, said “most devastating storm in Buffalo’s long storied history” due to its power and its extended length, CNN reports.
