Authorities in Birgunj Metropolitan City in Parsa District have declared an indefinite curfew effective from 9:45 a.m. Monday, citing concerns over public safety and recent tensions following a dispute that escalated between local youth groups. The order, issued by Chief District Officer Bhola (Bholanath) Dahal, restricts movement, gatherings, protests, meetings and assemblies within a designated perimeter of the city until further notice.

Security officials have said that essential services — including ambulances, fire engines, health workers, journalists, students sitting pre-scheduled exams, tourist vehicles, diplomats and human rights personnel — will be allowed controlled passage, with air travelers facilitated through the curfew by security forces.

The perimeter of the curfew zone extends from Bypass Road in the east to the Sirsiya River in the west, Gandak Chowk in the north and Shankaracharya Gate in the south. Authorities said the measure was necessary to stabilize the security situation after unrest last weekend.
