Death Toll Climbs to 13 in Baitadi Wedding-Party Bus Crash

A bus carrying a wedding party crash in Baitadi has left 13 people dead. Eight victims died at the scene, and five others died at Dadeldhura Hospital.

The bus — license plate SUP 02 001 Kha 1119, heading from Purchaudi-7 Bhavane toward Bajhang — crashed Thursday at the Purchaudi-7 Badgaun junction, authorities said.

According to Baitadi police chief Deepakkumar Rai, the following people were killed at the scene:

  • 40-year-old Keshavraj Joshi, 13-year-old Ashokraj Joshi, 35-year-old Basant Joshi, and 41-year-old Visnodat Joshi, all from Bittadchir Rural Municipality-7, Bajhang

  • 60-year-old Mohandev Bhatt, 40-year-old Basantraj Ratla, both from Bajhang

  • 40-year-old Pushpa Awasthi of Purchaudi-7, Baitadi

One person at the scene has yet to be formally identified.

At Dadeldhura Hospital, the following victims died:

  • 17-year-old Visnodat Joshi, 28-year-old Deepkaraj Joshi, 46-year-old Kishnadatt Joshi from Bittadchir Rural Municipality-7, Bajhang

  • 27-year-old Keshavraj Bhatt of Kedarsyu Rural Municipality-7

  • 15-year-old Sushil Joshi of Purchaudi-7, Baitadi

Another 34 people were injured in the crash. The injured are receiving treatment in Dadeldhura, Dhangadhi and Bajhang.

Police also noted that there were no bride or groom on the bus.
