Kathmandu – Efforts to unite alternative political forces in Kathmandu have resulted in an agreement to merge the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RASWAPA) and the Ujyaalo Nepal Party (UNEPA).

After intensive discussions between both sides on Monday evening, a draft of the unity agreement has reportedly been prepared.

The decisive talks held at the office of RASWAPA leader Asim Shah in Kamalpokhari included the participation of three of the country’s most prominent figures.

In the talks, detailed discussions on party unity and the upcoming political agenda were held between RASWAPA Chair Ravi Lamichhane, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah, and Ujyaalo Nepal Party Patron Kulman Ghising.

The unity between these groups—long active as independent and alternative forces—has been viewed meaningfully in Nepali politics.

In particular, with Kulman Ghising and Balendra Shah carrying an agenda of development and good governance, it is assessed that this will bring additional energy to RASWAPA’s future organizational expansion.

With the final draft of the agreement now prepared, both parties are making preparations to formally announce the unity through an official program.
