JANAKPURDHAM, December 21, 2025 — Ram Ashish Yadav, chief whip of the Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal (JSP-N), was elected Speaker of the Madhesh Province Assembly in a session held today. Yadav secured the position with a clear majority in the vote held at the provincial assembly.

In the assembly meeting, 96 members were present, and Yadav received 72 votes in his favour, while 24 members voted against him. The presiding Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Ishar officially announced his election.

Yadav was the candidate backed by a seven-party coalition, which included major political parties supporting his bid for the speaker’s post. He was proposed by Nepali Congress member Birendra Prasad Singh during the election.

The assembly had been without a speaker following the removal of the previous Speaker, Ram Chandra Mandal, earlier in the month after a motion was passed against him by provincial lawmakers.

Ram Ashish Yadav, elected from Dhanusha Constituency No. 2 (B), has served as a provincial lawmaker and is a senior leader within the Janata Samajwadi Party.

His election marks a key step in consolidating leadership within the province assembly after weeks of political developments and alliance negotiations among provincial parties.
