Kathmandu — At the 11th General Convention of the CPN (UML), the voting process is currently underway to elect the party’s new leadership. The ballot began in earnest at the closed session venue in Bhrikutimandap, where the two candidates for the chairperson post — KP Sharma Oli and Ishwar Pokhrel — cast their votes, formally launching the election process. The vote, originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, was postponed to 8 a.m. today due to technical preparations, but has gotten underway despite some delays.

The party has introduced electronic voting machines this time to speed up and organize the election more efficiently. A total of 80 electronic voting machines have been installed at the polling stations, which is expected to help swiftly collect and count votes from over 2,200 representatives. Delegates have shown strong enthusiasm, queuing up since early morning to cast their ballots. Although yesterday’s voting was halted due to technical issues, a large crowd has gathered at Bhrikutimandap since this morning.
