Kathmandu – The youth wing affiliated with the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) has filed a complaint against the mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen).

On Thursday afternoon, youth wing leaders submitted the complaint at the Cyber Bureau against Mayor Shah.

The mayor had earlier posted on the social media platform Facebook a status mentioning political parties in China, the United States, India and Nepal. When the post was subsequently removed from social media, it triggered protests against Mayor Shah. The youth wing alleges that by posting the status, he insulted political parties and friendly nations, thereby disturbing public peace.

In the complaint they argue that the status, written by a public office-holder, insulted political parties that played a leading role in Nepal’s democratic movements, and that it disturbed public order and tarnished relations with friendly countries. They demand according to prevailing law, that the strictest possible action be taken: immediate arrest, suspension of his passport to prevent flight abroad, and passport freeze.
