Kathmandu – Senior leader of the Nepali Congress, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, held talks this morning with key officials close to him.

In the meeting, held at his liaison office in Bishalnagar, Koirala consulted with Vice-President Dhanraj Gurung, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, and Joint General Secretaries Jiwan Pariyar and Badri Pandey. It is reported that the purpose was to end the existing internal deadlock within the party and set a schedule for the regular general convention.

Within Nepali Congress there is currently a sharp dispute over whether the convention should be held before or after the upcoming election. The party’s establishment wing has proposed that the convention only take place after the election on Falgun 21, whereas the General Secretaries insist the convention must be completed beforehand.

General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma, during yesterday’s Central Working Committee meeting, presented four possible schedules for the general convention.
