Kathmandu – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has announced a three-day suspension of incoming and outgoing vehicular movement in the Kathmandu Valley due to the increased rainfall and the potential risk of floods, landslides, and inundation.

In a press release issued on Saturday morning, the authority declared that highways will remain completely closed on October 5, 6, and 7, 2025. The statement from spokesperson Shanti Mahat emphasized that all long-distance vehicles traveling from the provinces of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini to and from the Kathmandu Valley are restricted to mitigate potential disaster risks from the heavy and very heavy rainfall expected.

Currently, moderate to heavy rainfall is occurring from the eastern Koshi Province to the western Lumbini Province. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts that the rain will continue until October 7, with the possibility of very heavy rain in some areas.

The authority has advised transport operators and the public to refrain from traveling long distances or entering/leaving the Kathmandu Valley unless absolutely necessary during this period. Additionally, district chief officers and security agencies have been instructed to enforce the vehicle movement restriction and maintain continuous monitoring and supervision.
