Kathmandu – Member of Parliament Birajbhakta Shrestha of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has urged that the government’s proposed law on mobilizing alternative development financing should include provisions for the IT sector.

During Monday’s Economic Committee meeting discussing the Draft Bill on Alternative Development Financing, he expressed concern that the bill had overlooked the IT sector. He criticized the legislation as stemming from outdated thinking and questioned the need for a separate mechanism when existing structures already perform similar functions.

“In the draft law proposed by the government on alternative development financing, I saw no mention of IT. It seems to have been crafted from an antiquated mindset. It shouldn’t be presented this way. The IT sector must be included. If what the bill envisions can be carried out by current structures, why is a separate framework needed? The government must clarify,” said MP Shrestha.

He further emphasized that the bill should also address the risks associated with mobilizing investments from sources other than the Treasury.
