Kathmandu – Organizations associated with private schools have expressed dissatisfaction with certain provisions of the School Education Bill.

They particularly demanded changes to provisions related to private schools that they feel hinder their interests.

At a time when the Education, Health, and Technology Committee of Parliament is preparing to pass the bill on Thursday and forward it to the House of Representatives, four private school organizations have drawn attention to proposed amendments they want.

They have called for the removal of the clause that mandates private schools be classified as non-profit entities.

They also demand that the term “full scholarship” be removed and that the current practice of providing scholarships to 10% of the total students—which is already in effect—be continued.

The committee has proposed raising this scholarship quota to 15%, but the private school bodies insist the existing 10% provision should remain.

They also want the retention of enrollment fees, annual fees, and monthly education fees under the scholarship framework.

The organizations—Hisan, National PYABSON, N PYABSON, and PYABSON—have warned that they will launch a protest from Sawan 29 if their demands are not met.
