Rs. 176 Billion in Remittances Entered Within One Month; Significant Increase Also Seen in Foreign Investment

Kathmandu – Over NPR 176 Billion in Remittances Entered the Country in a Single Month; Sharp Rise Also Seen in Foreign Investment

More than NPR 150 billion in remittances entered Nepal within a single month. In the month of Jestha 2082 (mid-May to mid-June 2025), the remittance inflow reached NPR 176.32 billion. During the same month last year, the inflow stood at NPR 128.91 billion.

According to data published by Nepal Rastra Bank, in the first eleven months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, remittance inflow increased by 15.5%, totaling NPR 1.532 trillion. In the same period last year, remittance had grown by 17.2%.

In U.S. dollar terms, remittance inflow increased by 12.7% during this period, reaching USD 1.125 billion. Last year, the growth rate was 15.2%.

According to the central bank, the year-on-year consumer price inflation for Jestha 2082 stood at 2.72%. In the same month last year, inflation was 4.17%. During the review month, inflation in the food and beverage group was 0.54%, while inflation in the non-food and services group was 3.94%. In the same period last year, inflation in these groups was 5.85% and 3.07%, respectively.

During the review period, the current account showed a surplus of NPR 307.31 billion. In the same period last year, the current account surplus was NPR 200.38 billion. In U.S. dollar terms, the current account surplus increased from USD 1.51 billion last year to USD 2.26 billion this year.

As per the central bank, net capital transfers during the review period reached NPR 8.96 billion, compared to NPR 5.46 billion in the same period last year. Similarly, direct foreign investment (equity only) during the review period amounted to NPR 11.09 billion, up from NPR 8.24 billion in the same period last year.

By the end of Jestha, the balance of payments (BoP) recorded a surplus of NPR 491.44 billion. In the same period last year, the BoP surplus was NPR 425.67 billion. In U.S. dollar terms, the BoP surplus rose from USD 3.20 billion last year to USD 3.62 billion in the review period.

In the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, 452,324 Nepali workers received final labor approvals (institutional and individual – new) for foreign employment, while 308,067 workers received re-approvals. During the same period last year, the numbers were 421,356 and 261,210 respectively.
