Kathmandu – Journalist Dilbhushan Pathak appeared at the Kathmandu District Court today. The Cyber Bureau had filed a case against him under the Electronic Transactions Act on July 1.

Pathak arrived at the court at 9 AM, where his statement is set to be recorded, followed by a detention hearing. The proceedings are being held in the courtroom of Judge Khemraj Bhatt.

The District Government Attorney’s Office filed the case based on complaint number 59, alleging that Pathak illegally published content in electronic form under section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act 2006.

The prosecution is seeking a penalty of either a fine of one lakh rupees, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

The complaint was filed after a post featuring an image of the complainant alleged financial connections between Jayveer Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Hilton Hotel, claiming investments by Sahil Agarwal and Deepak Bhatt. It suggested that Jayveer Deuba was linked to Hilton Hotel through Deepak Bhatt, with business interests extending to Canada. The complainant claims this publication was intended to malign his character by spreading hatred and resentment.

The prosecution’s charge sheet calls for the seizure of computers, floppy disks, compact discs, tape drives, software, or other equipment used for publishing the content. It also demands appropriate compensation for the alleged victim.
